THE SONGS

BACKGROUND
"I'm a topical folksinger, as opposed to being a Native artist.
However, the topic of being an Indian became so prevalent
in my music that I became known as an Indian folksinger".

Singer, songwriter, musician, playwright, artist, director, award-winning filmmaker, and First Nations ambassador for Canada.

1999 heralded the release of Metallic, Willieís first Canadian CD release.

These songs were all written and performed a generation before the struggle for land claims and stories of residential schools became part of the larger public consciousness.

Metallic is a pick of the best of Dunnís previous releases
Willie Dunn and The Pacific.

Since those recordings the political climate has changed but the issues remain the same. The current interest in Willieís songs School Days and The Ballad of Crowfoot illustrates the public awareness and scrutiny of the First Nationsí agenda.

This compilation features songs like School Days, The Ballad of Crowfoot, I Pity the Country, Crazy Horse, Louis Riel, Pontiac and The Carver, dedicated to Mungo Martin. Others are as diverse as Shakespeare's Sonnets and Melville's text from Moby Dick in The Pacific.
