CENTENNIAL

JENNY
Hello?

BALWINDER
Jen? Its BALWINDER.

JENNY
Bal!!! Welcome back! How was it?

BALWINDER
Wonderful! I don't know where to begin. The train ride itself was incredible. I had no idea how beautiful and big this country is. Northern Ontario looks like a painting. Its incredible!

JENNY
Really? What did Jimmy think?

BALWINDER
He loved it! We all loved it! You should've heard us wooping and yelling out the window at the scenery. I'm sure the Rotary Club had no idea what it was getting itself into when it sponsored the trip.

JENNY
(laughing)
I'm sure.

BALWINDER
Oh, and the Centennial Ceremony on Parliament Hill, Jen! I got to meet Governor General Michener, Prime Minister Pearson and Judy LaMarsh. It was a huge, 100th birthday party for Canada right there on the front lawn of the Parliament Buildings. Our new flag was everywhere and there were Mounties and bands. It was fantastic!

JENNY
Oh....I am sooooo jealous!

BALWINDER
Yeah, well from Ottawa we went on to Montreal and Expo 67 and it is wonderful, magical, mind blowing! I understand now why my dad is so proud to be a Canadian! It was incredible! Everyone we met was from some other country, it was like the whole world was there. We invited all of them to come out west and visit Calgary.

JENNY
I wish my dad had been there! He's pretty hard on you guys.

BALWINDER
Yeah, well it was amazing! People seemed as fascinated with us and the West as we were with them. It really made me appreciate what we have out here.

JENNY
That's so neat!

BALWINDER
It really was, but do you want to hear the best part?

JENNY
What?

BALWINDER
Jimmy asked me if I would go steady with him and I said yes.

JENNY
Oh, Bal! That's wonderful!

BALWINDER
Yeah. It was pretty romantic.

JENNY
I'm so happy for you guys.

BALWINDER
Me too. All and all, I'd say 1967 is a pretty incredible year.
